15th National Youth Festival 2010- National Youth Convention held at KIIT University campus
Bhubaneswar (Orissa): Bhubaneswar being the host for a mega event – 15th National Youth Festival 2010 is a style to commemorate the starting of New Year 2010. National Service Scheme (NSS) was instrumental in organizing its first event ‘Suvichar’ for its volunteers who all have travelled from different parts of the country to this temple city – Bhubaneswar to be a witness to this grand event. The second event under the banner of NSS came out in flying colors which was NATIONAL YOUTH CONVENTION. This convention was held at Auditorium, Krishna Campus, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar on 11th January, 2010.
National Youth Convention started with a mellifluous opening song by the NSS volunteers from Sangeet Maha Vidhyalaya which was dedicated to the almighty as a significance to take the blessings of God. The main orators for this convention were two eminent guests who have travelled all the way from Delhi to conduct a wonderful session for the volunteers. These two eminent delegates were Ms. Ranjana Saikia and Ms. Liveleen from Energy Research Institute, TERY, Delhi. The theme of this National Youth Convention was ‘Present Environmental Scenarios and Issues & Role of Youth in protecting the Environment.’
The presentation started with a brief description about TERY. And then Madam explained the volunteers about the Green India 2014 project that where will our country stand after 100 years of Independence. She also focused on the theme for this 15th National Youth Festival 2010 i.e. ‘Celebrating Diversity’. Some issues of social concern such as Climate Change, Pollution, Contamination of water, Degradation were also discussed during this session. The most entertaining part of this session was the interacting session that was conducted by Ms. Ranjana Saikia where volunteers from different states and Union Territories were asked to present their views and opinions on these topics of general concern which is affecting our environment.
The session was concluded with a felicitation ceremony where Madam Sarada Ali Khan, Director cum Program Advisor, NSS felicitated both the guests. This was followed by a concluding song by the volunteers from Sangeet Maha Vidhyalaya. NSS also organized a short cultural program for its volunteers during the evening where the Youth Awardees and Volunteers from different states were given certificates. Finally Mr. Satish Kumar Sawhney, Deputy Programme Advisor, Govt. of India thanked all those who all have played a vital role in making both these events successful.
