Duleep Trophy: Three Odisha players in East Zone team

Bhubaneswar: Jharkhand cricketer Saurabh Tiwary on Wednesday was named captain of East Zone as selectors here chose to omit former skipper Shib Sundar Das from the 16-member squad that would take on Central Zone in the quarter-final of the four day Duleep Trophy match at Amritsar from January 19-22.
Former Maharashtra captain Dheeraj Jadhav, who is now with Assam Cricket Association, has been made the 20-year-old youngster’s deputy.
The Jharkhand captain, who was a member of the U-19 World Cup winning India side in 2008, have been handed the captaincy ahead of the experienced Bengal duo of Manoj Tiwary and Laxmi Ratan Shukla.
The squad has two from Jharkhand, seven from Bengal, five from Assam and three from Odisha.
Last season, former India opener Shib Sundar Das had led the East Zone side in the Duleep Trophy.
The Squad: Saurabh Tiwary (captain) and Ishank Jaggi (both Jharkhand); Dheeraj Jadhav (vice-captain), Rajib Dutta, Abu Nacheem Ahmed and Dhiraj Goswami (Assam); Wriddhiman Saha, Arindam Das, Manoj Tiwary, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Ashok Dinda, Ranadeb Bose and Sourashish Lahiri (West Bengal); Niranjan Behera, Dhiraj Singh and Haladhar Das (Odisha).
