Tribal outfit in threatens stir

Phulbani: Accusing chief minister Naveen Patnaik of sitting over demands including settlement of land disputes, a tribal outfit in Kandhamal district on Wednesday threatened to agitate if their problems were not addressed forthwith.

The chief minister is adopting delaying tactics in fulfilling our 42-point charter of demands, including settlement of land disputes and fake certificate issue, convener of Kui Samaj Samannwaya Samiti (KSSS), Lambodar Kanhar told reporters here.

He said that the Samiti has asked the chief minister for a fresh discussion, but none had come.

If our demands are not redressed properly and quickly we will be forced to go again for a non-violent agitation, he maintained.

Lack of sincerity in settlement of land and fake certificate problems has irked the tribal people, he said.

He also said that the Samaj opposed the decision of the government to open 22 country liquor bhatis as it would ruin the economic condition of tribals.

To check corruption in Kandhmal, the chief minister should personally review the activities of the Kandhmal packages announced by the state government, he said.
