Nabbed Maoist in Orissa transacted lakhs in banks

Sambalpur: Bhabagrahi Sandha, a suspected Maoist who was arrested on Februrary 11 in Sambalpur, had transacted nearly Rs 10 lakh in his four accounts in different banks of the district although he has no known source of income to this extent.

Talking to this paper, district Superintendent of Police Asit Kumar Panigrahi said that during interrogation, Sandha admitted that he was collecting extortion money for the Maoists from contractors and businessmen including few from the town.

He was running four accounts in United Bank of India, Sambalpur District Cooperative Bank, Utkal Gramya Bank and State Bank of India. Police seized Rs 3.4 lakh from his possession at the time of his arrest.

He has also Rs 1. 4 lakh deposits in all his four bank accounts and police have seized them on Friday, Panigrahi informed. The police, after forwarding Sandha on February 12, brought him under remand again for further investigation for two days. Although he was claiming that he was working for the Maoists only three months before, but huge monetary transactions in his four accounts confirm his attachment with them at least for last three to four years, the SP said. After completion of the remand, the police sent him to judicial custody.
